In this episode, I chat with Dr Penny Kansiime ( Insta @safaree256 ) from Uganda. Dr Penny has more than 10 years of work experience as a Social Worker and a social researcher. She also worked in Uganda as a Sexual and Gender-Based Violence prevention officer with Urban refugees, helping forced migrants (asylum seekers) who came from various countries like Burundi, DRC, Somalia, Rwanda and many more. Dr Penny obtained her PhD at the University of Newcastle, Australia where she researched about experiences of social workers who worked with male survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in Uganda. In this interview, she talks more about GBV and social work methodologies and their relevance in the contemporary African [though relevant to other former colonies] context.

In this episode, I chat with Rojé Ndayambajé (Insta: @rojepoetry & @rojemillo ) who is a poet from Rwanda but currently lives in Australia. Rojé shares with us his lived experiences from the refugee camp of Nakivale in Uganda to the New South Wales (NSW) territory of Australia. His life has a historical connection with 4 different countries (Rwanda, DRC, Uganda and Australia) and with not so many words he shares how these countries contribute to his social identity. This episode includes 4 poetry deliveries written and performed by Rojé. 

In this episode, and through a monologue delivery, Tony Nyundu makes a brief reflection on the journey of the Visions and Tones Podcast. Firstly, he pays tribute to all essential workers who are at the forefront in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic. Secondly, Tony reflects briefly on each episode (from episode 1 to 5) with the help of undocumented voices drawn from informal conversations with few listeners of the show. Thirdly, he provides a response to some criticisms around the confusion of the 'All Lives Matter' narratives and the call for the expansion of the definition of GBV. He concludes by introducing the listeners to a 'Womanist' approach which he believes partly informs his invitation to the expansion of the definition of GBV. This episode is not mainly about GBV, or Fenimism or Womanism. Stay tuned for such episodes.

In this episode, I chat with Mr Mauro Biosse (Inst @maurobiosse) from Mozambique. We talk about 'stuck-up people' who live among us. But first, we interrogate the conceptualisation of the phrase. Secondly, we make a self-reflection on where we went wrong in the past about the phrase and lastly, we close by helping the audience make self-reflections on whether they are stuck-up or not, and if necessary, help them to do away with it.  Mauro is a third-year student pursuing his degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Newcastle in Australia. He is a police ambassador and the founder and chairperson of an undergraduate student club called the African Student Networking Community (ASNC) within the university. Mauro recently joined the student leadership of the Centre for African Research Engagement and Partnership (known as CARE-P). In this episode, I chat with Dr Pedro Garcia (Inst. @garciapedr0) who is originally from Brazil but currently lives and work as a Medical researcher in Australia. Dr Garcia has more than 10 years of experience working as a medical researcher. In this episode, he gives great insight into the longevity of vaccine creation and addresses the existing myths on the Corona vaccine including the '666' narratives. In this episode, I chat with Dr Gordon Donnir ( @gordondonnir ) on the complexities of Mental Health - from spoken myths to understanding how to approach those struggling with mental health within our communities. Lastly, we address the possibility of pluralities of healing processes (Western & Indigenous) than only prioritising the Western healing practice. Dr Donnir who is originally from Ghana and worked as a Psychiatrist there currently works as a medical officer in a Psychiatry facility in Australia and is also pursuing his PhD in Forensic Psychiatry. In this interview, Dr Donnir brings us to the balanced narratives between Australia and the African context. 

P.S: Not suggesting Africa as monolithic, but acknowledging that this great continent with many countries may share some characteristics in common.
